Bernese advertising voice for TV commercials
By Andy Zimmermann, voice over artist
Everybody knows the refreshing Smint mints. Back in the 1990s they were advertised with the catchy line ‘One Smint for 2 hours of freshness!’. The product has changed, the motto stays:
A sound studio in the Netherlands and the people in charge on the client’s side logged into the live link from my studio. That let the client influence pitch, pronunciation and tone without being in the studio with me. For television advertising in particular, I recommend that my clients plan in a live link like this. It gives both the voice over artist and the client a form of interaction that makes the recording considerably more efficient and keeps corrections to a minimum.
This production called for a ‘neutral Swiss German’, which is why I used my softened Bernese German — most German-speaking Swiss find it more likeable than Zurich German. More on that on my ‘Swiss German’ page.
